Location:

Since the last outing to Sooke Potholes was rained out, this week's "Air" location will be a return to the Sooke Potholes.  Note: a $2 parking fee is now required as of May 1st which is good for all day.  Everyone will meet in the top parking lot 2 just before the restricted access to the camping ground.  Arrival time is 9 to 9:30.

Painting Location for Thursday, June 20th 2013

Location:

This week's "Air" location will be a return to the Sooke Potholes, with a lot of variety to choose from.  A $2 parking fee is now required as of May 1st which is good for all day.  In the first outing, everyone met in the main parking lot, this time we will meet in the top parking lot 2 just before the restricted access to the camping ground.  Arrival time is 9 to 9:30.

Due to my studio work load for the upcoming SFA show and the low turn out for the last few paint outs, I won't post again until the paint out for June 13th.

Painting Location for Thursday, May 23rd 2013

This week's "Air" location will be a return to Ayum Creek, a location which was a bit cool and wet in early March but provided a good variety of scenes to paint. Access to Ayum Creek is off of the West Coast Road just north of the Ayum Creek bridge.  Lots of parking both sides of the bridge.   Arrival time is 9 to 9:30.

Painting Location for Thursday, May 16th 2013

This week's "Air" location will be on the Sooke River, with access near the Sun River housing development.  It is a short hike down to the river through a forest with great  forest and river views. The Sooke River here, is near the mouth and is wide and slow moving with open areas.  Lots of variety to choose from.  Access is just off of Philips road with a small parking lot on the right before you come to the clearly marked trail to the river.  Arrival time is 9 to 9:30.

Painting Location for Thursday, May 9th 2013

This week's location in Metchosin was suggested by Rob Owen and it is at Glenrosa Farm Bed and Breakfast located at 5447 Rocky Pt Rd.  According to Rob there is a wide variety of scenes and vistas to choose from for painting 'Air' time.  You can check out the Glenrosa webpage for some scenic locations.  There is plenty of parking just inside the main gate to the left.  The only request is we close any gates behind us while we walk through the property. Arrival time between 9 to 9:30.

'Air Time' at the Anne's Part II, Sooke BC Canada

Following the previous week's visit the gang elected to go back to Anne's for another session with 10 of the Gang showing up for some "Air" time. Here are a few photos from our successful outing for May 2nd.

'Air Time' at the Anne's, Sooke BC Canada

This past week under sunny skies, seven of the Plein Air Gang showed up out in the Sooke area.  They had the opportunity to enjoy the hospitality of Anne Boquist and to paint the beautiful vistas of forest, fields, and structures located on her estate.  Here are a few photos of this inspiring location:

Painting Location for Thursday, April 25th 2013

This week we have an opportunity to paint on the beautiful forested property of Anne Boquist off of Otter Pt Road.  Anne, a 3D artist herself, has generously invited us to enjoy a  variety of landscape scenes on her property.  Some of the possibilities include access to De Mamiel creek which runs through her property, fields, forest and a few buildings. See the google link for a map how to get to her property on 3183 Robinson Rd.  For those who went to Young lake a few weeks ago, Robinson road is the 2nd right off of Otter Pt Rd after Young Lake Rd.  Towards the end of Robinson road there is a long cedar hedge on the right hand side followed by a driveway which is Anne's.  Arrival time between 9 to 9:30 am.

'Air Time' at the Coopers Cove, Sooke BC Canada

This past week, 3 members of the Plein Air Gang gathered at Coopers Cove on April 18th, under grey skies.  It was a beautiful scene with mirror like reflections on the water, but our painting session was cut short by cool showers moving in.  This place definitely deserves a return trip when the weather warms up a bit more.

This week the gang is headed for Cooper's Cove, a location at the bottom of the long down hill drive after 17 Mile House.  The location is next to the Stickleback Eatery on your left with a beautiful scenic view of the Sooke Basin along with sail boats moored in the Cove and the Goodridge Peninsula in the background.  Access to the Galloping Goose trail is also near by.    We can park inside of the Stickleback parking lot to the left between 9 to 9:30 am.

'Air Time' at the Sooke Potholes, Sooke BC Canada

Six members of the Plein Air Gang gathered at the Sooke Pot holes on April 11th, under over cast skies with intermittent sprinkles of light spring rain.  Everyone decided to take advantage of a beautiful waterfall scene close by on Todd Creek to create some 'Air' masterpieces.

This week we are headed for a popular natural destination, the Sooke Potholes.  We will meet in the main parking lot between 9 and 9:30 am and then disperse from there.   At noon we will return to the main lot and we can share our masterpieces. :-)

'Air Time' at Young Lake, Sooke BC Canada

A good time was had on April 4th by 10 painters who showed up for the Plein Air Gang's paint out at Young Lake.  Weather started to turn a bit wet with light showers mid morning but everyone was able to find enough shelter under trees or building overhangs to create some open air gems.

Location: 
The beautiful area in and around Young Lake, the site of Camp Barnard, the Boy Scout camp.  We've been given permission to enjoy this private site by the caretaker. The main parking lot is situated next to Young Lake.  The location is about 6 kilo from the corner of West Coast Rd and Otter Pt Rd in Sooke.
Also if there are any showers there are a few open shelters where we can paint from. It's not going to rain...right?   :-)

'Air Time' at Whiffin Spit, Sooke BC Canada

The second outing for The Plein Air Gang on March 28th, was to Whiffin Spit which started out as pleasant spring day with light overcast skies and calm waters around the Spit.

9 of the Gang showed up for a little 'AIR', and everyone was inspired by the low tide and the big sky over Whiffin Spit.

Painting Location for Thursday, March 28, 2013

Location:

Whiffin spit is the location this week with the weather starting to warm up.  Whiffin Spit is located at the end of Whiffin Spit Road right next to the Sooke Harbour House.  There is a parking lot and if that is filled you can park on the road leading in.  A restroom is available about 650 m down the spit.

'Air Time' at Ayum Creek, Sooke BC Canada

Well, the first voyage of The Plein Air gang went pretty well, considering it was raining an snowing in Sooke BC, where we went to paint today. 

The was 5 of the Gang who showed up for a little 'AIR', and everyone came a way with sketches and paintings from Ayum Creek.

We showed up to Ayum Creek in a fairly hard rain with big wet snow snowflakes mixed in...

So, it was off to Mom's Café in Sooke BC. 

We all had breakfast and a chat, and the weather cleared up by about 10:30. 

The weather held well and we got some painting done...
